Upper Blepharoplasty with Incision Methods

Upper Blepharoplasty with Incision Methods

Surgery Features

♦Double eyelids are formed after removing and suturing redundant skin tissue.

For those with thicker eyelids, more upper eyelid fat, or sagging eyelids, the “double eyelid” effect can be created through surgery.

♦Who need

1. Older people with sagging eyelids.

2. Those with excessive eyelids, thicker eyelids, swelling, and more eyelid fat. Asians tend to have thicker eyelids, and thus are suitable to undergo this type of surgery.

Surgical Approach

♦The incision method allows the double eyelids to last longer, while redundant eyelids can be removed.

An incision is made during surgery to remove redundant skin, fat, and muscle and cut out a suitable double eyelid arc. Then, the tarsal plate or levator aponeurosis is sutured to create the double eyelid effect by means of scar formation.

Precautions

1.Unable to remove sagging and redundant eyelid skin.

2.In case of wound pain after the anesthesia wears out, strengthen cold press within three days after surgery to reduce swelling expansion. Apply cold press for 15 minutes several times a day (other than during sleep). Painkillers may also be taken to alleviate the discomfort.

3.Apply warm press staring the fourth day after surgery. Apply it 2-4 times a day and for 30 minutes each time to help the swelling to subside.

4.Refrain from tobacco, spirits, tea, coffee, chilies, herbal medicine (such as Granoderma lucidum), and other blood-activating and irritating foods.

5.The slight swelling and bruising after surgery can be improved after about a week.

6.Preform eye opening and closing movements two days after surgery to help the swelling to subside.

7.There is no need to cover the wound with gauze after surgery. Apply anti-inflammatory ointment.

8.Wear sunglasses when out to block sunlight, wind, and dust from irritating the wound.

9.Clean the wound with a sterile cotton swab and saline solution. Apply anti-inflammatory ointment three times a day. Do not allow the wound to be in contact with tap water to avoid infections.

10.There may be slight bruising and swelling around the eyes after surgery. There is no need to panic. Do not bow your head for an extended period of time and reduce water intake and foods that are rich in sodium to facilitate blood backflow and improve swelling.

11.There may be itchiness prior to wound healing. Do not rub the wound using your hands.

12.Return to the clinic for suture removal after about seven days.

13.Return to the clinic for follow-up tracking one month after surgery.

Q&A

Q:What is the postoperative care for Upper Blepharoplasty with Incision Methods?

A:Suture is removed after 7-10 days. There is usually more swelling on the second and third day. The swelling will gradually subside starting the fifth day. Apply cold press frequently within 72 hours after surgery to facilitate swelling reduction. The condition will improve after about 10-14 days, and it takes about 1-2 months to sustain a complete recovery.

Q:Will people notice I had double eyelid surgery after returning to work?

A:You may wear colored eyeglasses or eyeglasses with thicker rims to cover up the scar when you are at work. However, obvious changes will be noticed.

Q:Why does my postoperative swelling last longer than others?

A:Postoperative swelling is inevitable, but due to individuals’ varied physical constitutions, some may feel they have more swelling than others that barely have any postoperative swelling. In fact, by frequently applying cold press after surgery, the degree of swelling can be reduced.
