Areolar Reduction

Areolar Reduction

Surgery Features

The Golden Ratio

Generally speaking, nipples that are too large, small, inverted, elongated, out of shape, or misdirected (e.g. Facing downwards) are less deal shapes. What should an ideal nipple areola look like? An ideal areola should have a diameter of about 3-3.5cm and a height of 4-7mm. Of course, there are many others who prefer small areolas as well, varying from person to person.

Who Need

Areolas that are dark or too large not only affect appearance, but also have a negative impact on the sexual partner as far as visual stimulus goes. Although the areola is only a small part of the breast tissues, it has its unique and irreplaceable physiological functions. Due to physical composition, hormones, sucking, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, the areola may turn dark with age. However, larger or darker areolas or darker nipples have nothing to do with sexual experience. If the areolas have simply turned dark, try using products that contain arbutin, azelaic acid, and vitamin C to lighten the areola. You may also resort to laser to improve the pigmentation problem.

Surgical Approach

Areolar reduction surgery involves the removal of redundant tissues in a concentric ring that surround the areola and suture. Some of the nerves and blood vessel are retained during surgery in order to not only retain most of the sensations, but also create a more beautiful appearance. The surgery adopts local anesthesia. General anesthesia may be simultaneously administered for breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift surgery, thus serving multiple purposes. In general, as long as the areola size is not too large and that the size needing reduction is within range, usually, one rather than multiple reduction surgeries is needed to achieve the ideal size.

Precautions

1.Please take postoperative anti-inflammatory medicine, four times a day, after three meals and before sleep to reduce swelling and prevent inflammation.

2.Wound care: First, dip a cotton swab in saline solution and clean the wound with a dry swab. Apply ointment on the wound once in the morning and evening. Do not be in contact with raw water to avoid infection.

5.During wound healing, avoid excitant foods (such as coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, spicy foods, diet pills, herbal medicine, etc.) and foods that are too hard. Take more high-protein foods (such as fish, meat, beans, eggs, milk) to promote wound healing.

6.The postoperative swelling around the areola is a normal process, which subsides after about 5-7 days. Please have patience, as completely recovery may take up to 2-3 weeks or longer.
