♦Occurrences of Breast Ptosis
Breast Ptosis is caused by the aging of tissues that connect the breast and the thoracic wall, causing breasts to sag after losing the fight with gravity. The speed at which breasts sag varies from person to person. The so-called breast lift is a corrective surgery intended for sagging breasts.
1.A more common occurrence seen in postpartum women is that due to mammary and fatty fibrous tissue proliferation during pregnancy, the skin becomes overextended, resulting in the relaxation of the breasts and leading to the slow recovery or even atrophy of barest tissues as the end of the breastfeeding period.
2.A common occurrence seen in postpartum women is that due to the discomfort of breast swelling, women request their gynecologist to administer lactation suppression injections, as the injections would accelerate lactation suppression and reduce swelling, but they often result in the relaxation of elastic tissues in the chest, making the breasts appear as if they are leaking balloons and causing sagginess and atrophy.
3.Another cause is the so-called “macromastia”. Due to the hyperplasia of the breast tissues, larger breasts are formed. Because of the heavier weight, the skin and fatty tissues appear saggy due to gravity.
♦What is breast ptosis
With the nipple position as the axis and the breasts in normal condition, the location of the nipple should be above the trench line under the breast.
1.If viewed from the side of the breast, the location of the nipple has to be level with the trench line of the breast. Medically, it is known as “pseudo-sagging”.
2.If the nipple position is within 1cm below the trench line of the breast, it is known as first degree sagging.
3.If the nipple position is within 1cm-3cm below the trench line of the breast, it is known as second degree sagging.
4.If the nipple is more than 3cm below the trench line of the breast, it is known as third degree sagging.
5.The surgeon may perform various corrective surgeries depending on the degree of sagging.
1.Pseudo-sagging and general slight sagging can be corrected through augmentation surgery. Breast implants are placed under the original breast tissues or pectoralis major to achieve the purpose of modifying and concealing the shape of the breast implant, while achieving the dual improvement results of breast augmentation and breast lift.
2.For pseudo-sagging patients satisfied with their current breast size, a simple incision can be made around and below the areola to lift the nipple position.

3.Individuals with hypertrophy and sagging breasts must undergo reduction surgery to remove redundant breast tissues, adjust the nipples to their appropriate positions, and improve the lateral extension of the breasts. For individuals with only breast sagging and later extension, in order to genuinely enhance breasts and regain youthful breasts, the position and direction of the nipples can be adjusted to appropriate positions through breast lift surgery.
4.For individuals with severe third degree sagging, breast reduction or augmentation can be done while carrying out breast lift fixation surgery to make breasts look their best.
◆Location of Wound
The wound after breast lift and fixation surgery may be the result of an incision in the areola incision area (slight), an incision on the areola and below it (medium sagging), or an inverted T incision (severe sagging), depending on the condition.
1.Avoid tobacco, alcohol, or staying up late to prevent wound infection or poor healing. |
2.Select suitable underwear. |
3.Carefully disinfect and dress the wound after surgery to prevent wound infection and poor healing. |
4.Avoid excessive labor. Avoid excessive force on the upper limbs and reduce activity during the first week after surgery to prevent recurrences of angiorrhea due to elevated blood pressure after bleeding in blood vessels stops. In case of excessive blood clots, the chances of capsular contraction will greatly increase, while the tenderness and soft touch will greatly diminish. |
Q:How can I enhance my sagging breasts?
A:You may undergo breast lift surgery, coupled with breast implants or Augmentation Mammoplasty with Autologous Fat Graft Transfer if needed.
Q:How do I determine “sagging”?
A:With the nipple position as the axis and the breasts in their normal condition, the location of the nipple should be above the trench line under the breast; if it is below the trench line under the breast, it is considered to be sagging.
