Cheek Dimples Creation

Cheek Dimples Creation

Surgery Features

Dimples are considered by Asian women as embellishment of beauty and are regarded by westerners as marking of femininity.

A dimple is a small area of sunken facial skin, which usually appears when one simles, hence the name “smiling dimple”. Although dimples are sunken skin, they give the impression of a playful and cheerful feel, and this “imperfection” is only a bonus when it appears a certain location. If it appears in an inappropriate location, it becomes a real defect. Dimples or dimples near the corners of the mouth alike are muscular defects. Some people’s muscles of facial expression (laugh muscles) fascia and the dermis of the outside of the mouth are connected by dotted fibers. When they smile, their muscles of facial expression will be moved, and the external side of the corner of the mouth will show a spherical or oval skin depression, which is the cheek dimple created.

Surgical Approach

Cheek dimples and dimples near the corner of the mouth can be artificially manufactured. Prior to surgery, you must first determine the location of the cheek dimple. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia. The procedure involves making a small incision on the oral mucosa. Then using a special instrument that enters to suture for fixation, the skin and muscle are connected and sutured. The surgical procedure promotes artificial adhesion of the dermis and the laugh muscles, thus forming a check dimple. The entire surgery only takes 10 minutes to complete. During the early part of the cheek dimple creation, when one’s without a facial expression, there are still two depressions. To fully present the result, natural repair may take one month or more. The depression during the early part of surgery will be repaired and will naturally disappear after 1-3 months.

Precautions

1.Suture removal after surgery is not required. The surgical suture will gradually disintegrate within two weeks.

2.Refrain from opening the mouth too wide or chewing within three days after surgery. After suture fixation, the condition will return to normal.

3.Gargle several times a day. Gargle after eating to maintain oral hygiene. Do not eat foods that are too hot to avoid irritating the wound.

4.The diet choices include nutritious foods that are easy to chew and digest, such as custards, milk, soy, spinach, tomatoes, etc.

5.Avoid eating hard foods and irritants such as tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and so on to reduce irritation and wound friction.

Q&A

Q:Will sutured cheek dimple loosen?

A:In general, dimple sutures are nonabsorbable nylon lines. They can exist in the body for a logn period of time without decomposing. Therefore, unless the surgeon fails to suture tight enough or the lines are pulled forcibly, they normally will not loosen.

Q:Is cheek dimple creation suitable for everyone?

A:Cheek dimples are not suitable for all people. They are suitable for people that have fuller cheeks, as two dotted dimples will give them a sweeter look. For people who have a thin face, dimples will appear uncoordinated. Artificial dimples are usually more natural and obvious.

Q:What is the difference between a cheek dimple and a dimple at the corner of the mouth?

A:For Asians, dimples are usually located on the cheeks, at about 2-2.5cm oblique to the corner of the mouth. They may be round or shuttle shaped. Dimples at the corners of the mouth are more rare, mostly shuttle-shaped below and parallel to the corners of the mouth, at about 1cm from the corner of the mouth. In short, check dimples are above the mouth, while dimples at the corners of the mouth are below.
